Get Up to $25,000

Batteries store excess solar energy you produce to be used on days when the sun isn’t shining quite as strongly, and they’re a must have if you’re planning to operate 100% solar.

The BC Hydro Solar Battery Rebate offers $500 per kWh of installed battery energy storage system size for up to:

  • $5,000 off Single Family Homes
  • $25,000 off Multi-Unit Residential Buildings

The rebate can pay for up to 50% of the total combined cost of labour and materials for your solar battery install of 5 kWh or more. Solar batteries are nothing without their solar panels, so if you’re looking at implementing batteries, consider also applying for the BC Hydro Solar Panel Rebate and the Canada Greener Homes Interest-Free Loan.

$75,000 Rebates for First Nations Governments

Did you know BC Hydro also offers a rebate for solar battery installation projects paid for by First Nations Governments? They are eligible to receive up to $75,000 in rebates for up to 70% of the combined labour and materials cost.

Are You Eligible?

Eligible properties for these rebates include:

  • (a) residential single family homes including single family detached dwellings; duplex, triplex, row home or townhomes; or mobile homes that are fixed to a permanent foundation, and are structurally complete with installed and connected plumbing, heating, electrical, water and sewer services, and with towing apparatus and axle removed;
  • (b) multi-unit residential building or strata common area, on a single meter;
  • (c) commercial building; (each an “Eligible Property”)

The following types of buildings or property are not eligible for the Rebate:

  • individually metered suites within multi-unit residential buildings such as strata, condominium, and apartment units,
  • garages, workshops, and outbuildings,
  • unheated, seasonal, or unoccupied buildings,
  • secondary suites or units within an Eligible Property (including suites with separate meters), e. any movable property.
